Classic Sponge Cake

 

Ingredients:

  • 4 large eggs
  • 120g granulated sugar
  • 120g all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 60ml milk
  • 60g unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions:

  • Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).
  • Grease and flour a 9-inch round cake pan.
  • In a mixing bowl, beat the eggs and sugar together until pale and fluffy.
  • Sift the flour, baking powder, and salt together, then gently fold into the egg mixture.
  • In a separate bowl, combine the milk, melted butter, and vanilla extract.
  • Gradually add the milk mixture to the batter, folding gently until combined.
  • Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and smooth the top.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  • Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
